Almost Unplugged -
Live album. Released by Hell&Back on September 17, 2008. Contains a
live concert recorded at Nalen in Stockholm, Sweden on January 26, 2008.
EUROPE was accompanied by a string quartet and played reworked versions of
its own songs, as well as cover versions of songs by bands that have
influenced the band's sound over the years – Pink Floyd, UFO, Led
Zeppelin and Thin Lizzy. The concert was also released on DVD on
August 19, 2009.

"Always the Pretenders" - Song written by Joey
Tempest and John Levén. Released as the first single from the album Secret
Society in 2006. Inspired by a phone call Joey received on
September 11, 2001.

Anita Katila
- Joey Tempest's girlfriend in the early 80s. She sent a
FORCE demo tape to the "Rock-SM" talent contest in 1982. The band didn't think the tape was good enough, but she sent it anyway
without telling them about it. FORCE was entered into "Rock-SM",
changed its name to EUROPE and won the contest!

Anna Maria Kaufmann
- Canadian opera singer. In 1998 Joey Tempest sang on five songs on her
album Blame It on the Moon. One of them was "Running With a Dream", the official anthem for
Germany's soccer team in the World Cup in France 1998.

"Boyazont"
- Instrumental written by John Norum and Eddie Meduza. Included on
the album Europe in 1983. The first half of the song was taken
from Meduza's song "Reaktorn
läck i Barsebäck". In an interview with Sweden Rock Magazine
in 2015, Norum explained the meaning of the title "Boyazont": "I was living with a girl whose name was Susanne Boya. She was really happy about this little tribute to her. I don't remember where we got 'zont' from, but that's the sort of idea you come up with when you're a little teenybopper."

Brazen Abbot
- Rock band formed
by Bulgarian guitarist Nikolo Kotzev in 1994. Mic Michaeli, Ian
Haugland and John Levén played in this band. Mic and Ian played on the
first album, Live and Learn (1995), and Levén joined the band
in 1996, replacing Svante Henryson. After that, Mic, Ian and Levén played
on the next three albums, Eye of the Storm (1996), Bad Religion (1997) and
Guilty as Sin (2003),
before they left in 2003 to take part in the EUROPE reunion.

- The working title for EUROPE's fifth album, but was changed to Prisoners in Paradise.

"Break Free" (song)
- Song written by Joey Tempest and Kee Marcello. Recorded for the album Prisoners in Paradise, but was not included. Instead it was
used as B-side for the single
"I'll Cry for You" and included on the Japanese edition of the album in
1991. It was also included on the compilation Definitive Collection
in 1997.
The intro is a recording of John Levén saying,
"Hello, I'm Johnny Cash," played backwards!

international single from the album The Final Countdown in 1987. The music video was
directed by Nick Morris and filmed at the Swedish Film Institute in
Stockholm, Sweden. EUROPE's biggest hit in the
USA; it was number 3 on the
Billboard chart. This song and "Love Chaser" were included on the soundtrack for the
Japanese film World Grand Prix Pride One.

"Cherokee"
- Song written by Joey Tempest. Inspired by the history of the
Native Americans. Released as the fourth international single from the album
The Final Countdown in 1987. The music video was
directed by Nick Morris and filmed in
the Sierra Nevada, Spain. It's Ian Haugland who talks in the intro to the song,
saying, "Nu
ska vi spela!" (it's Swedish for "Now we shall play!")

- Band formed in
1996. John Levén and
Ian Haugland were members of the band and played on two albums, Nostalgia (1996) and
Naďve (1998). A third album
was planned, but never recorded.

Def Leppard
- English rock band formed in 1977. EUROPE was the opening act on their
summer tour in the USA
in 1988. The two bands played a soccer match the same year, and the
result? Def Leppard-EUROPE: 10-0! "We gave Def Leppard a game when we
played with them and we didn't really stand a chance," Joey Tempest
said, "They had guys from the road crew in their team and they all
had real soccer boots, we just turned up in our trainers. We didn't know
they were so serious!"

"Devil Sings the Blues" - Song written by Joey
Tempest and Mic Michaeli. Included on the album Secret Society
in 2006. A tribute to the birth of John Norum's first son, Jake Thomas.

Dokken
- American rock band formed in 1978. John Norum played in this band. In 1989 he played
on vocalist Don Dokken's solo album Up from the Ashes, and in
1997 he toured with Dokken in the USA after replacing George Lynch. In 2002
Norum played on the Dokken album Long Way Home, but he left during the following world tour and was replaced by Alex
De Rosso.

- Song written by Joey Tempest. Single from the album Wings of
Tomorrow, released in Japan only in 1984. The song was performed a cappella
on the The Final Countdown tour in 1986-87.

Easy Action
- Swedish glam metal band formed in 1982. Kee Marcello is a founding
member of this band. They released
two albums, Easy Action (1983) and That Makes One
(1986), before Kee joined EUROPE in November 1986. Easy Action split up
shortly after. They reunited in 2006 with Kee back in the band. Since then
they've been working on a new album.

Eddie Meduza
- Swedish rockabilly artist. Born Errol Leonard Norstedt on June 17, 1948
in Varberg, Sweden. John Norum played on four of Eddie's albums
and also toured with his band, The Roaring Cadillacs. Eddie
died of a heart attack on January 17, 2002 in Nöbbele, Växjö, Sweden.

EUROPE
- The band was
formed under the name WC in 1978 and changed its name twice; to FORCE in
1979 and EUROPE in
1982. The name changes were suggested by Joey Tempest, who was inspired by
the UFO album Force It and the Deep Purple live album Made in
Europe. EUROPE released five studio albums before going on hiatus in 1992.
The band reunited temporarily for a one-off performance in Stockholm on New Year's Eve 1999 and announced an official reunion in
2003. Since then the band has released five new studio albums, the most
recent being War of Kings, which was released in 2015.

Europe (album)
- EUROPE's debut album, released by
Hot Records on March 14, 1983. In total 1 million copies have been sold worldwide. The
original album cover was a band photo, but a new cover was made for the
Japanese edition and it's the cover that has been used for most (if not
all) editions of the album that have been released ever since. The castle-like building depicted on
the new cover is
the Karlskirche, a church in Vienna, Austria. The angel statue is the Angel with the Sponge,
one of the statues situated on the Ponte Sant'Angelo in Rome, Italy. The
statue was sculpted by Antonio Giorgetti.

EUROPE: Mark I
- Joey Tempest (vocals and keyboards), John Norum (guitar), John Levén
(bass) and Tony Reno (drums). This lineup lasted
from 1981 to 1984 and recorded two studio albums: Europe (1983) and
Wings of Tomorrow (1984).

- Joey Tempest (vocals), John Norum (guitar), John Levén
(bass), Mic Michaeli (keyboards) and Ian Haugland (drums).
This lineup originally lasted from 1984 to 1986, then reunited in 2003 and is the band's
current lineup. This lineup has

Bag of Bones (2012) and War of Kings (2015).

EUROPE Logo
- This classic logo was designed by Tony Reno's brother, Teijo Niemistö.
It was originally used from 1983 to 2006, though it went through some
minor design changes throughout the years. When the album Secret
Society was released in 2006, EUROPE started to use a brand new logo
with a block letter-like design. However, with the release of the album Last Look at Eden in 2009, the band decided to go back to the
classic Niemistö-designed logo.

- John Norum's second solo album, released in 1992. The European and
Japanese editions contain the duet "We Will Be Strong", a duet by John Norum
and Joey Tempest. However, the song was not included on the American
edition of the album.

FORCE
- The band was
formed under the name WC in 1978, but changed its name to FORCE in 1979. The first FORCE lineup consisted of Joey Tempest
(vocals), John Norum (guitar), Peter Olsson (bass) and Tony Reno (drums).
The band name was suggested by
Joey, who was inspired by the
UFO album Force It. Peter left in 1981 and was replaced by John Levén. In 1982 FORCE changed
its name
to EUROPE.

- Swedish shock rock band formed in 1983. Tony Reno joined the band in 1986, replacing Mikkey
Dee. Geisha released one album, Phantasmagoria in 1987 and split up

Glenn Hughes
- English vocalist and bassist. Has played in bands like Deep Purple and
Black Sabbath. In 1992 he sang on John Norum's album Face the Truth.
John Levén, Mic Michaeli and Ian Haugland toured and recorded with Glenn
in 1994-95.

"Girl from Lebanon"
- Song written by Joey Tempest. Included on the album Prisoners in
Paradise in 1991. Sony Music USA tried to remove the song from the album because of what
they claimed to be "provocative lyrics".

- Song written by Joey Tempest. Released as the second single from the
album Start from the Dark in 2004. Tribute to one of Joey's heroes,
Phil Lynott, the frontman of the Irish rock band Thin Lizzy. The music video
was filmed at Hovet in Stockholm, Sweden.

"I'll Cry for You"
- Song written by Joey Tempest and Nick Graham. Released as the second single from the album
Prisoners in Paradise in 1991. The music video
was directed by Phil Tuckett and filmed at the Circus in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1992 EUROPE recorded an
acoustic version of the song, which was included on the compilations 1982–1992 and
Rock the Night: The Very Best of Europe. It was recorded in
one take.

has written songs like "Seven Doors Hotel", "Open Your
Heart", "The Final Countdown", "Rock the Night",
"Superstitious" and "Prisoners in Paradise".

John Levén
- The bassist in EUROPE. Born John Gunnar Levén on October 25, 1963 in Stockholm, Sweden.
Replaced Peter Olsson in FORCE in 1981. Joined Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force
the same year and was replaced by Yngwie's former bassist, Marcel Jacob. Three
months later John and Marcel traded places again. Remained in the band
until the hiatus in 1992. Took part in the EUROPE reunion in 2003. Has
co-written songs like "Where Men Won't Dare", "Wild Child",
"Yesterday's News", "Always the Pretenders" and "The
Beast". John and Joey Tempest are the only band members who have
performed on all of EUROPE's studio albums.

- The guitarist in EUROPE. Born John Terry Norum on February 23, 1964 in Vardř, Norway. Formed the band WC in 1978,
which would change its name twice; to FORCE in 1979
and EUROPE in 1982. Left EUROPE in November 1986 due to personal and musical
differences.
Replaced by Kee Marcello. Took part in the EUROPE reunion in 2003. Has co-written songs like
"Got to Have Faith", "Start from the Dark", "The
Getaway Plan" and "Love Is Not the Enemy".

- The former guitarist in EUROPE. Born Kjell Hilding Löfbom on February 20, 1960 in Ludvika, Sweden.
Replaced John Norum in EUROPE in November 1986, and remained in the band until
the hiatus in 1992. Has co-written songs like "More Than Meets the Eye",
"Just the Beginning", "Little Bit of Lovin'", "Homeland" and
"Break Free". Nowadays he claims that EUROPE is
a finished chapter for him.

Last Autumn's Dream
- Hard rock band formed in 2002. John Levén, Mic Michaeli and Ian Haugland were
members and played on the band's self-titled debut album in 2003. After that,
Levén, Mic and Ian left to take part in the EUROPE reunion, and Last Autumn's
Dream had to recruit new members. One of them was Marcel Jacob, who played on
the band's next five albums.

Lisa Worthington-Larsson
- Joey Tempest's wife. They got married in Richmond, England on September 29,
2000. They have a son, James Joakim, who was born on October 12, 2007. Lisa is a former photo model, but now she works as a food stylist.

The first disc contains a concert that was filmed at the Hammersmith Apollo in London on November 15, 2004. The

- Song written by Joey Tempest. Recorded for the album Prisoners in Paradise, but was not included.
Instead it was used as a B-side for some editions of the singles "Prisoners in Paradise" and "Halfway to Heaven",
released in 1991-92. The song is also available on the remastered edition of Prisoners in Paradise released in 2001 and
the compilation Rock the Night: The Very Best of Europe released in 2004.

"Lyin' Eyes"
- Song written by Joey Tempest. It was scheduled to be released in 1983 as
the first single from the album Wings of Tomorrow, and 1000
copies were pressed. However, the copies were withdrawn the day before the
planned release date. Today the single is widely regarded as one of the
rarest collectors items among EUROPE fans. The album version of the song
contains a different vocal track than the single version.

Marcel Jacob
- Bassist. Born on January 30, 1964
in Stockholm, Sweden. Co-founding member of Yngwie Malmsteen's band Rising Force. In
1981 FORCE's bassist John Levén joined Rising Force and Marcel joined FORCE.
This only lasted for three months, and the bassists traded places once again.
Marcel co-wrote the song "Scream of Anger" with Joey Tempest. Worked
with John Norum on Norum's first solo album, Total Control. Marcel was
found dead of suicide in his home on July 21, 2009 in Kristineberg, Stockholm.
He was 45 years old.

Mic Michaeli
- The keyboardist in EUROPE. Born Gunnar Mathias Michaeli on November 11, 1962 in
Upplands Väsby, Sweden.
Joined EUROPE for the Wings of Tomorrow tour in March 1984 as a
background musician, and become an official member shortly after.
Remained in the band until the hiatus in 1992. Took part in the EUROPE
reunion in 2003. Has co-written songs like "Carrie",
"More Than Meets the Eye", "Seventh Sign", "Let the
Children Play", "Forever Travelling" and "Devil Sings the
Blues".

Michelle Meldrum-Norum
- American guitarist. Born on September 28, 1968 in Detroit, Michigan, USA. Michelle got married
to John Norum in Las Vegas in 1995. They had a son, Jake Thomas, who was born on
September 22, 2004. Michelle passed away on May 21, 2008 in Burbank, California,
due
to a cystic growth in her brain.

Millennium Gig
- On New Year's Eve 1999, EUROPE did a one-off performance in Stockholm, just minutes
before midnight. Band lineup: Joey Tempest (vocals), John Norum (guitar), Kee
Marcello (guitar), John Levén (bass), Mic Michaeli (keyboards) and Ian Haugland
(drums). They played two songs, "Rock the Night" and "The Final
Countdown". The rehearsal for this gig was a big inspiration for the EUROPE
reunion in 2003.

In 1985 John Levén suggested that Joey should write a song based on that riff.

Bowie song "Space
Oddity". It was released as the first single from the album The Final Countdown in 1986.

- EUROPE's first manager. His record company, Hot Records,
arranged the first "Rock-SM" contest in 1982, which EUROPE won. In
1984 he officially became the band's manager. EUROPE fired Erdtman in 1989 after it was
discovered that he had swindled a lot of money from them. Replaced by Herbie
Herbert.

- Vocalist. Born on September 18, 1965. John Norum's younger sister. Joey Tempest

on the album, and John Norum also played on Tone's second album, This Time,
in 1988. Tone has released five albums in total, the most recent being
Stepping Out, released in 1996. Recently she has
been working on new material.

Tony Reno
- The former drummer in EUROPE. Born Tony Niemistö on February 10, 1963 in Danderyd, Sweden.
Joined WC in 1978, which would change its name twice; to FORCE in 1979 and EUROPE in 1982. Was fired
from EUROPE after the first leg of the Wings of Tomorrow tour in 1984, because the other members felt that he
had a nonchalant attitude and didn't take band rehearsals seriously
enough. Replaced by Ian Haugland. During the late 80s and early 90s, Tony played
in the bands Geisha and =Y=. Nowadays he works at a computer company in Upplands
Väsby.

WC
- Band formed in Upplands Väsby in 1978. The first lineup consisted of John Norum (guitar and

(bass). After a while Norum left to form a new band with Peter Olsson (bass) and
Werner (drums). A couple of weeks later, Werner was replaced by Tony Reno and the
band was named WC, thus creating WC's second lineup. In 1979 Joey Tempest joined
the band, which then changed its name to FORCE.

Stockholm. Friend and rival of John Norum. Marcel Jacob, John Levén, Ian Haugland and Peter Olsson have all played in
Yngwie's band, Rising Force. Yngwie asked Joey Tempest to join, but at
that time Joey was busy with the band FORCE.
